OpenAI has launched a new Lockdown Mode inside ChatGPT, alongside system-wide Elevated Risk labels, targeting organizations and users operating in high-security environments. The update addresses a growing concern: as AI tools gain agentic capabilities (browsing the web, connecting to third-party apps, executing code) they also expand their attack surface. One of the most discussed threats is prompt injection, where malicious instructions attempt to manipulate models into leaking data or performing unintended actions. What Lockdown Mode does: Deterministically disables certain tools and capabilities that could be exploited Restricts browsing to cached content only, blocking live outbound network requests Allows workspace administrators to enable lockdown organization-wide Supports whitelisting of approved apps or actions while restrictions remain active In parallel, OpenAI is introducing Elevated Risk labels across ChatGPT, Atlas, and Codex.
